IMHO all these are finally working towards self realisation and there are infiinite ways of reaching the final goal. I am certainly not looking to cure any illness at physical or mental level.So if anyone says I will show the way and this is the only way or even this is the best way then do not believe him/her completely. I had attended a crash course where a young lad taught Yoga as pose1, pose 2 etc without much talk/lecture.Lot of people come to Yoga for different reasons physical fitness being the foremost.For one I read that it keeps your body more flexible if practised over a longer period of time and one can be in better physical health at an older age.the Simplests/Grossest and moves on towards the subtler and subtler sheaths.Who is talking about 'Equating this to have realized something external, like the vibrations from some other planet/stars' and 'Who is stating this is hogwash ? I am not Patanjali and not in this forum/thread to support yoga or prove anything for or against Yoga.This is a very interesting and deep subject in itself and not as straight-forward as it seems.
If it is all left to the student, then why attend a course?
That does not pre-suppose that physical or mental illness are the main reasons people come to Yoga.
Some may just do it because it is the 'In Thing', 'Fashionable'.

He also taught basic meditation techniques before and after the asanas/pose.
